In 2021, Nike held a "CO.JP" Tournament, allowing the Japanese public to choose between 16 previous "CO.JP" sneakers, with an elimination style showdown seemingly crowning the highest voted release.
Short for “Concept Japan,” CO.JP was a Japanese initiative that ran from around the mid ’90s into the early ’00s. In a lot of aspects, it was a precursor to the way limited sneakers are today, with limited regional releases, collaborations, Quickstrikes etc. It also used to be the URL for Nike’s Japan website. Some of the more notable & classic shoes from that era include: The Air Force 1 "Linen," Dunk Low "Viotech,", Air Jordan 1 "Midnight Navy" & the gorgeous Air Max 1B "Storm". Most of the CO.JP silhouettes may be lost on today’s sneaker fan - but its experimental nature on other models such as the Seismic and Footscape, offered something truly unique for the most die hard of sneaker-cultists.
Fast forward to 2023, inspired by their previous CO.JP’s models, Nike release a new “Head To Head” sneaker pack. Remixing classic concepts for new iterations of the Nike Dunk Low PRM and Nike Air Max 1 PRM. The Dunk Low incorporates the color scheme taken from the Air Max 90 “Escape” & adds snake from 2006’s “Cocoa Snake AF1”. While the Air Max 1 is reworked in collegiate colours from 1999’s “Reverse Michigan” Dunk Low. Both pairs feature snakeskin and crocodile patterns throughout.
